Manjaro 0.8.2 has been released!

The culmination of substantial refinements and exciting new developments, Manjaro 0.8.2 is the most polished, feature-rich, and accessible release yet.

Just a few of the new features provided includes support for Steam gaming, automatic desktop notifications for new system updates, and – developed exclusively for Manjaro – a user-friendly graphical interface to easily manage and maintain the system. Experienced users can also take advantage of support for new features, including the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI), B-Tree File System (btrfs), and Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) storage system.

A more detailed overview of the improvements in the 0.8.2 release is as follows:

  • The default kernel series has been changed to 3.4-longterm for better upstream support
  • Steam gaming is now supported (beta)
  • Gnome Package Kit has been replaced with the Kalu upgrade notifier, and – exclusively for Manjaro – a user-friendly interface for pacman (the pacman-gui)
  • A new Brazilian server is online (thanks, Holmes)
  • Each flavour of Manjaro comes with an installation guide for beginners
  • The CLI installer has been enhanced with additional language support, optional network configuration, hard disk encryption, and several bug fixes
  • A 'Testing Installer' option has been added with support for new advanced features including btrfs, nilfs, luks, lvn, gpt, efi, and software-raid
  • Plymouth – and its related bugs – have been removed
  • Numerous bug fixes have been made, including the Resume/hibernate bugs affecting laptops (XFCE desktop)

Further information about Manjaro 0.8.2 developments can be found in our changelog. Both 32 and 64 bit versions of Manjaro 0.8.2 are also available in the following flavours (i.e. with the following desktop environments pre-installed):

  • XFCE 4.10
  • KDE 4.9.2
  • Gnome 3.4.2 / Cinnamon 1.6.4

Openbox and Razor-QT are also available for installation from the Official Manjaro repositories. A minimalist Net-Edition is also available without a pre-installed display manager, desktop environment, or software applications in order to build your own Manjaro system from the ground up.

Manjaro 0.8.2 is a testament to the incredible dedication, enthusiasm, and skills of every member of the Manjaro Team. It has been a real pleasure to have become a recent addition to such a fantastic team behind such a fantastic distribution. On behalf of the entire Manjaro Team themselves, it is also a genuine pleasure to be part of such an amazing and supportive community.

Best Wishes,

Carl Duff

What if I’m using Manjaro 0.8.1? What do I have to do in order to upgrade my system to the lastest version?

Great version, finally i can test it (needed the gpt support badly) downloaded xfce 64bit

works great out of the box, it is somewhat rare to see that in an Arch based distro, I’m deeply impressed
this system is as stable as BSD and as fast as Fedora, maybe even faster because it does not implement the SELinux stuff

already configured the system to fit my needs

an application based white-list-oriented firewall would make it perfect IMO

i remember someone already wrote something like that on sourceforge, but can’t remember the name of the application :/

    anyway

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR MY SEARCH IS NOW OVER.

    Congratutions to Manjaro team!!

This is the best distro out there. I am glad I found it in this early stage. It fast and stable. Give it a try!

  12. Fandangio says:

I came across Manjaro when downloading ArchBang and thought that I would give it a try. I currently have it installed in a VM and if I had to sum it up in one word it would simply be “Awesome”.

As soon as I get time I will be backing up my data and doing a full install (main family PC).

As others have already stated there has been some great work by the dev team. Many thanks!

i know ther’s an excellent installation guide on the wiki but now that 0.8.2 is finally out can someone PLEASE do a simple easy-to-follow guide for windows 7 users? i have a laptop with one hard disk, 8 gig of ram; its got one partition with win7 on it, another partition for data storage and finally 25gig of unallocated space which is where i want to put manjaro. as i’m not sure what im doing with the manjaro installer i dont want to do it until im absolutely sure what im doing, i don’t want to ruin my win7 by trying to install manjaro…im used to automatic partitioning etc as in ubuntu so i have no idea what/where/how to allocate root swap or whatever…please help!

    • Carl Carl says:

No problemo! The User Guide for Experienced Users on the Wiki provides detailed information on how to set up your partitions.

In this instance, you may want to consider following the guide on creating two partitions in your unallocated space: one for the system, and one for the SWAP. In this instance, you can make then both LOGICAL partitions.

  16. montee says:

thanks…i’ve read the guide and it is quite detailed…it says you should allocate swap comparative to your ram (i have 8gig of ram, so does that mean i allocate 8gig to swap? seems a lot?) i’m still not certain as to how/where you install the bootloader so that i will definitely see my win 7 partition on boot?

    • Carl Carl says:

For this one I would advise using the forum, as I stopped using Windows completely some time ago. I believe that a program called ‘os-prober’ would automatically detect other operating systems to be selected upon boot. But it is probably best to get the advice of a real expert in this matter.

As the for the SWAP, 8GB may be necessary if you are using a laptop and wish to use the hibernate and sleep functions. You may be able to get away with less (some users say about 3GB should be fine, but I played it safe in the guide).
