Manjaro 0.8 daily builds online

After releasing Manjaro 0.8.0 nine days ago (2012-08-20) we got so much feedback about this public release.

We are thankful for all your replies and working hard to make Manjaro even better. Daily Builds we release time to time for our beta-testers to check if we are on the right track before our next point-release gets published.

Here some changes we did so far:

  • Belarusian, Russian and Spanish language support added
  • Development packages for AUR added
  • Some more apps like xchat and transmission added
  • XFCE edition is now a DVD-image with 1.0 GB in size – until now
  • libreoffice with en_GB and en_US translations got added
  • a new overlay with preinstalled drivers got added to have a blazing fast bootup from LiveDVD (10 – 15 seconds only)
  • minor fixes like 7-ZIP-FM and qt related applications start now

Tell us what you’re still missing in Manjaro Editions so we can fix it for you.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Manjaro-Xfce works on my HP TouchSmart TX2 laptop, on the first demo boot-up. At least in the sense that allowing the boot option to allow proprieatry drivers. That mean that my screen responded to the pen, touch, and the mousepad also worked. I have yet to encounter a distro that rotates the screen using either the button interface or by rotating the screen to tablet mode. Problems still abound, since the first boot up has just crashed. I guess that means a trip to your forums. :-(

Sorry to hear that your laptop crashed. A AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core and ATI 3200 GFX shouldn’t be a problem. What distro worked with your hardware, if there is any?

Why are you not using HexChat instead of xchat? HexChat is a fork based on XChat. Compared to xchat it has active developers.

I would add Qbittorrent instead of Transmission, because of its integrated search of multiple bittorrent search engines and as transmission is well known and the default bittorrent client at almost every distro, be different.

When I discover this great multiplattform torrent client to anybody they switch, even from microtorrent MS WOS and OSX versions.

i also would add russian, bielorusiian and spanish versions of Libreoffice. In fact every language you add add the Libreoffice internationalization package.

And if you can compile Multisystem – even without some dependences as fatresize – It would be nice to have a different distro than Ubuntu based with this amazing tool

the “Q” sounds like QT so if it ids QT I do not like for XFCE or Gnome / Cinnamon versions, for the KDE version si perfect in that case

      • philm philm says:

Our installer and other tools we develop are written in QT so qtorrent wouldn’t be so far off. Will see which one is better for our default installation …

    • philm philm says:

All languages have their internationalization packages if there are any.
Just wait for a newer daily build to see if it got included yet. We try to add a complete tranlsation for all supported languages.

I have just read an Idea at ubuntu brainstorm, I reported duplicate because I did it 8 months ago.

A GUI grub editor that allows an easy way to delete old kernels and add ISO images to /boot as Multisystem or MULTIBOOT method does.

Of course is better if you have a separate /boot partition, as ARCH is RR no need for reinstallations, but if you like to test at bare metal several distros as I do, or for having rescue distros at your /boot is great.

Also, if it is done, to act as a replacement for multisystem at no ubuntu based distros for making multi ISO USBs.

It will be a lot faster than pendrive Multisystem use until USB3 and USB3 pendrives will be normal.

Hi I want to know if you can add the syslinux bootloader instead of GRUB on the Manjaro 0.8.1 and you can add VBA-M and Lightread to your repositories

additionaly if you can make Chromium the default browser instead firefox I will thank you a lot

    • seadx6 says:

Please exnclude the last paragraph of my request, that where I suggest the Chromium inclussion as the default browser, it has some issues with the Manjaro’s Zukiwo titlebar theme so please exclude it

    • philm philm says:

syslinux doesn’t support os-prober. So no other OS than Manjaro would be detected. Grub we do autoconfigure so no configuration of our users are needed. On every kernel-update grub.cfg gets rebuild. We will provide a simple UI for grub in a later state of Manjaro Linux.

      • seadx6 says:

OK, and what do you say about a graphical GRB like on Mandriva Chakra openSUSE PClinuxOS or Pardus? it looks realy cool and one like that but with the Manjaro logo and the Manjaro’s black leather wallpaper it will look great

Yaourt & abs ,all properly configured.
A simple way to set the keyboard language

    Excuse my English

    mersi

    • philm philm says:

My installer does this for example:
      sed -i 's#Identifier "evdev keyboard catchall".*#&\n Option "XkbLayout" "fr"#' /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf
      sed -i -e 's/^.*KEYMAP=.*/KEYMAP=fr/' /etc/vconsole.conf

Just replace “fr” with your needed settings. Else use the tools your DE supplies.

    Hi all,
    thanks for your job!

As necessary improvements to your XFCE edition (the only one I tested) I would add:

    1) A file search program: Catfish is probably the best choice, light and effective.
    2) To help new users managing the main menu (without manually editing .desktop files): lxmed (http://lxmed.sourceforge.net/).
    3) A better theme as Orta.

    That’s all!

    ;)

Hi to the team of Manjaro!! You have created a distro with personality and style and I like it. My pc is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ and an onboard GPU NVIDIA GeForce 6100 nForce 405. I tried the 686 version of Manjaro 0.8.0 and I have encountered some issues. The propietary Nvidia driver was installed by the installer but I have experienced flickering of the screen and freezing in the entire system. Also is not working the option to restart o shutdown in the LightDM screen. When I press this button nothing happens.
I vote too to chromium by default and I hope you make a system even easier to use than it is now but also suitable for advanced users.
    Good luck!!

lightdm-unity-greeter bug is known. If you have troubles with the nvidia driver you can always use also the free one. Simple open a terminal and write:
sudo mhwd -a pci free 0300

I believe it would be best to have wicd-curses by default

I somehow have been pining for logging into any of the major Desktop Environments (DE) without having to reboot and choose them at grub. One could then log out and choose their DE. Of course you can install them all in ubuntu, but all of the installed programs show up in their menu.
And even if I do not mind choosing the DE at the grub, by default the home directory does not get shared. Configuring them to share the same home directory sans the application preferences needs some expertise.
I wonder if you can put all the DEs together in one installation, give the user the option of choosing their favourite DE on log out, and still show up only those programs relevant to that DE.
I have tried your XFCE and KDE versions and they are doing great on my desktop.

    Hello!!

I’m an Ubuntu user tired of Compiz and an eating resources system as Unity. So I’m searching a new home, could it be possible a semantic launcher like Synapse and integration with Dropbox?

Thank you and congrats for Manjaro, I like it so much!!

    • philm philm says:

Since we support AUR you can simple add lot’s of dropbox packages to your system using packer.

      • balcuta says:

        Hello!!
Yes, I know the option, but I mean integration with Thunar as Nautilus in Ubuntu (or Marlin).
I’ve tried to install some software with yaourt, “synapse”, with no exit, problems building the package. Is there another easier wayfor newbies to install apps?
